Shades of Meanings in Quranic Words 01

Semantics of Quran

Shades of Meanings in Quranic Words 01

Sometimes we learn the meaning of a Quranic word in a verse and try to apply the meaning in other verses. But in many cases, the certain meaning of a word might not be applicable to other contexts and it may lead to misinterpretation of the verse. Most of the content keywords of the Quran have multiple (and sometimes more than a dozen of) shades of meanings depending on their contexts and collocations. Many of these words have Primary Meanings (PM) and several other Secondary Meanings (SM) that are quite distinctive from the ones commonly perceived by the beginners who strive to grasp the meaning of the Quran. Even the most commonly used everyday Quranic words can confuse some learners while matching English translation with the Arabic text unless they have some prior knowledge of the topic being discussed in today’s blogpost.

In the following sections, I will be discussing some common Quranic Arabic words with their Primary Meanings (PM) and Secondary Meanings (SM) with examples from the Quranic verses. InShaAllah this will make the learners aware of the semantic diversity of Quranic Arabic and guide them to prepare for their future plans to address the issue.

1.1 Primary Meaning: (a) Book, Written Text, (b) The Quran

And [even then], we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read (17:93)

No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being (57:22)

وَمَا تَسْقُطُ مِن وَرَقَةٍ إِلَّا يَعْلَمُهَا وَلَا حَبَّةٍۢ فِى ظُلُمَـٰتِ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا رَطْبٍۢ وَلَا يَابِسٍ إِلَّا فِى كِتَـٰبٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ

  9. A Progressive Big Gaming Jackpot is a betting grand prize or payout which increases each time the game is played but the jackpot is not won. When the Progressive Big Gaming Jackpot is won, the Jackpot for the next play is reset to a fixed value, and resumes growing under the equivalent law. Many slot machines and video poker machines feature a Progressive Big Gaming Jackpot. The jackpot increases by a small predetermined amount each time the game is played. Often multiple machines are pooled or linked together to form a Big Progressive Jackpot which grows extra fast since additional non-winning plays can be count toward it.

  15. Many online casinos offer sign-up bonuses to new players making their first deposit, and often on subsequent play as well. BigGaming Casino Bonus are a form of advertising that may incur a cost (potentially justifiable in order to attract a new player who may return and deposit many more times), since the casino is basically giving away money in return for a commitment from the player to wager a certain minimum amount before they are allowed to withdraw. Since all Casino Games have a house edge, the wagering requirements ensure that the player cannot simply walk away with the casino's money immediately after claiming the bonus. These wagering requirements are commonly set to be sufficiently high that the player has a negative expectation, exactly as if they had deposited and not claimed a bonus.

The common betting Houses Act, the Betting Act, the Private Lotteries Act and the Betting and Sweepstake Duties Act. When examining these laws, you would be led to believe that playing in Big Gaming Singapore Casino is a big no-no.
